Success Is knowing Your Purpose in Life.

Key to SuccessThe title of today’s post is derived from John C. Maxwell’s famous definition of success; it is its first proposition.
In contrast with those who believe that success is something to be achieved – something like wealth, power, or happiness – leadership expert, John Maxwell, who has spent more than 30 years studying the subject of success, defines it in the following terms: “Success is knowing your purpose in life, growing into your full potential, and sowing seeds that benefit others.” According to him – and I agree with him – success is a Journey that you take your whole life long.

If success is a life’s journey that one starts with finding his purpose in life, then the question that you may ask yourself is, but how can I know my purpose in life?

Well, In Finding Your Purpose: Identifying Your Strengths and Going for Growth, an article that he wrote and which was published in SUCCESS Magazine on August 5, 2009, the author of Your Road Map for Success proposes two paths one can take to discover his purpose:

  1. The Passion Path
  2. This path is, according to the author, only 80% accurate as it leads only to what he calls the location, the area, or the neighborhood of what your purpose really is. The passion path takes you to answering the following following questions:

    • What am I passionate about?
    • What do I really care about?
    • What would I live for?
    • What would I die for?

Taking the passion path is following your emotional hear bit, going after the things that you are compelled to do almost without any external motivation.
Passion is the great energizer, and God, knowing what your life’s purpose is, gave you a heart that allows you to pursue these things you are called to do in life despite and against any type of challenge you may encounter.

  3. The Strength Zone Path
  4. The strength zone path leads to the recognition of your giftedness, the sum total of your natural abilities that set you apart from everybody else. Your strength zone represents your “unfair advantage”, the privilege God gave you to be more qualified than the rest for that specific role you have been designed to play in this world.
With regard to this truth, John Maxwell asserts: The Strength Zone Path takes your giftedness and talent, and begins to lift you above the crowd.

Finally to wrap up, you are a unique individual, particularly wired for a specific purpose, and it’s only by knowing what this specific purpose is that your success journey starts. Following the two paths described above will help you in your quest to finding your purpose in life.
